Chapter 11 - MY LETTERS TO ANNA

I had written too.
Not fourteen.
Eight.
The first months.
Then fewer.
I gave them to Marlene because she claimed not to know where Anna was but promised:
“If she contacts me, I’ll send them.”
I kept copies on an old computer.
Helen printed them.
Anna,
Lily asks every morning if you’re coming home.
I’m angry.
I won’t lie.
But if you need help, call me.
Another:
I found your green sweater under the bed. Lily sleeps with it.
Another:
I don’t care what happened between us. Please tell Lily you’re alive.
Marlene had seen these.
She knew I was looking.
She told Anna I had moved on.
Told me Anna wanted silence.
