“That’s why he kept asking about my birthmark,” Sophie said.
Rebecca touched the crescent-shaped mark beneath Sophie’s left wrist.
“What does it have to do with a door?”
Sophie did not know.
The federal team reached Continuity Site B before the convoy.
The property looked like an abandoned boarding school surrounded by woods.
Inside were classrooms converted into medical suites, interview studios, and sealed dormitories.

Officers established a roadblock.

Investigators found Room Zero beneath the school.
Its door matched Sophie’s description.

The lock required a living biometric match.
Sophie’s hospital wristband transmitted an alert at the same moment officers touched the door.
Someone had connected her medical identity to the archive.
Dr. Chen removed the wristband immediately.
The hospital system displayed a new message:

Rebecca stared at the designation.
“S-zero.”
Sophie was not simply another child targeted by Preston.

Rachel reopened Sophie’s birth records.

Rebecca had never seen it.

It showed six newborns in hospital bassinets.

Evan was born one year after Sophie, yet the photograph appeared to show them together.
The image had been manipulated—or the birth records had.
A seventh bassinet stood at the edge of the frame.

Its stated purpose was to determine whether children’s loyalties could be redirected through controlled custody conflict.
The subjects were not chosen after their families broke apart.
Their family conflicts were encouraged from birth.
Rebecca’s marriage, Preston’s behavior, and the custody case may have been monitored as part of a long-term experiment.
Then the archive door emitted a tone.
Someone had activated it remotely.
The lock accepted Sophie’s live facial scan from the hospital ceiling camera before the network was disconnected.
Room Zero opened.
Inside, the first monitor displayed Rebecca holding newborn Sophie.
Beside her stood another woman wearing the same hospital gown.
She held an identical baby.

Rebecca had no twin.
