Cameron did not leave quietly.
Men like him rarely do when paperwork replaces control.
He tried confusion first.
Then concern.
Then anger.
Then fatherhood.
“That is my child.”
Sienna held Clara closer.
“She is the child you left us to lose.”
His face twisted.
“I didn’t leave anyone to die.”
Dr. Porter spoke before Sienna could.
“You ignored a high-risk obstetric emergency after being informed of the danger.”
Cameron turned on her.
“You don’t know our marriage.”
The doctor’s voice sharpened.
“No.”
“I know her blood pressure, her blood loss, her emergency surgery, and the fact that the father was unreachable.”
Nora added, “We also have his voicemail.”
Cameron’s eyes flicked to Sienna’s phone.
Patricia touched his arm.
“Don’t say anything else.”
That was the first wise thing she had said all day.
Hospital security asked Cameron to step into the hallway.
He refused.
So the guard placed a firm hand on his shoulder.
“Sir, you need to leave.”
Cameron looked at Sienna.
“You’re really doing this?”
Sienna’s eyes filled.
Not because she doubted herself.
Because part of her had once loved the man now asking why consequences had arrived.
“You did this.”
He flinched.
Patricia stepped forward.
“If you destroy this marriage, you will regret it.”
Nora turned slowly.
“Mrs. Hayes, threaten my client again and I will add it to the filing.”
Patricia’s chin lifted.
“You people don’t understand our family.”
Sienna almost laughed.
Our family.
The phrase that had been used to excuse every selfish demand.
Patricia’s brunch.
Patricia’s holiday schedule.
Patricia’s opinions on baby names.
Patricia’s guest room.
Patricia’s birthday.
Patricia’s son.
Never Sienna’s pain.
Never Sienna’s body.
Never Sienna’s life.
The security guard guided Cameron toward the door.
He looked back once.
“Can I at least see her?”
Sienna looked down at Clara.
Tiny.
Breathing.
Alive.
Then she looked at Cameron.
“No.”
The word was soft.
It still stopped him.
Patricia gasped as if Sienna had slapped him.
Cameron looked destroyed.
But Sienna knew the difference now.
He was not grieving what he had done.
