Chapter 10 - The Phone Vince StoleAdrian followed through the tunnel in a reinforced manual wheelchair from the warehouse medical bay.

Owen pushed behind him when the incline became too steep, not without asking first.
“Help?” the sheriff said.
“Yes.”
That single question separated him from every person who had moved Adrian without permission.
They reached the underground boat dock as Thomas’s engine started.
Caleb held Vince beside the rear seats.
Thomas displayed the disability certificate through the windshield.
“Come closer, and it goes into the river.”
Adrian stopped.
“You still need my signature.”
“I need your face, your voice, and enough pressure to make a court believe you cooperated.”
“You spent three years proving I’m incapable.”
“I can cure incapacity as easily as I created it.”
Thomas carried a prepared medical report from Evelyn Marr declaring Adrian’s cognitive condition had suddenly improved.
The network could change disability from limitation to competence whenever money required it.
Vince reached inside his jacket.
Caleb struck him.
A stolen phone fell onto the dock.
Adrian’s phone.
The cracked screen lit with an upload notification.
FINANCIAL ARCHIVE SENT.
Vince had already transmitted the files.
“To whom?” Thomas demanded.
Vince smiled through blood on his lip.
“Everyone.”
Before leaving the apartment, he scheduled the backup to send if he did not cancel it by midnight.
The archive reached federal investigators, benefits agencies, journalists, and every victim family listed in the phone.
Vince had prepared one honest act before slapping Adrian.
It did not erase the assault.
It made him more complicated than the role Thomas assigned.
Thomas raised the certificate over the water.
Adrian looked at him.
“Destroy it.”
Thomas froze.
“The trust key—”
“Elaine can issue another certificate after revoking the stolen one. You’re holding paper.”
The original had mattered only while everyone believed it could not be replaced.
Elaine had already changed the trust authentication.
Thomas dropped the certificate onto the boat floor instead.
Caleb started the engine.
Robert activated the dock barrier remotely. Steel posts rose beneath the water, blocking the exit.
Thomas drew a gun.
Owen aimed at him.
Vince drove his shoulder into Caleb, and both men fell against the controls.
The boat spun sideways.
Thomas fired.
The bullet struck the dock light.
Darkness swallowed the tunnel.
Adrian heard Owen move, Vince shout, and an engine reverse.
Then the boat disappeared through a maintenance channel not shown on Robert’s map.
Backup lights returned.
Vince lay on the dock.
Caleb and Thomas were gone.
Owen checked Vince’s shoulder.
The bullet had grazed him.
Adrian looked at his brother.
“Why did you come back?”
“I didn’t. They threw me off when the phone uploaded.”
The answer was honest.
Vince had not suddenly become heroic.
He had helped, failed, and survived.
Federal teams entered Unit Seven before dawn. Victims were transported to independent hospitals. The archive remained under seal.
No final arrests were resolved.
Thomas and Caleb had escaped.
Evelyn demanded immunity.
Vince demanded protection.
Elaine and Robert faced questions about the years they spent maintaining the system.
Adrian faced the apartment he could not return to and a father who remained free.
Then the financial archive revealed one encrypted payment channel Vince had not identified.
The account received every stolen disability payment after passing through Grayson.
Its owner was listed as:
A. COLE.
Adrian Cole.
Someone had built a fortune in his name.
The current balance exceeded ninety-four million dollars.
A withdrawal had been authorized that morning using Adrian’s live voice from the warehouse broadcast.
His declaration of independence had been repurposed as banking authentication.
The destination account belonged to an offshore trust named:
THE VINCI FOUNDATION.
Adrian turned toward Vince.
“Why is your childhood nickname on the account?”
Vince stared at the screen.
Only their mother had called him Vinci.
Then Elaine entered the room.
Her expression changed when she saw the name.
May you like
“The foundation was mine.”
👉 Adrian’s stolen benefits had accumulated inside a fortune created by Elaine—and his mother had never told either son it existed.
