Owen called for immediate medical teams and federal backup.
Thomas triggered the warehouse lockdown.
The freight elevator stopped.
River gates began opening beneath the building.
Water entered the lowest tunnels.
He intended to destroy the archive and force an evacuation before authorities could identify the victims.
Elaine guided Adrian and Owen through the control system.
“Robert is in the power room,” she said. “Thomas kept him alive because he designed the original evidence network.”
“Why keep you alive?” Adrian asked.
“To find the trust key.”
“You knew where it was.”
“Yes.”
“You put it on my disability certificate.”
Elaine’s eyes filled with regret.
“I believed Thomas would never cause the disability required to activate it.”
“You underestimated him.”
“I underestimated what fear made him willing to call love.”
Owen reached the power room.
Robert Hale sat beside an electrical console with one wrist chained to the desk. Owen cut him free.
Father and son stared at each other.
Robert lifted a hand toward Owen’s face.
“You became sheriff.”
“You let me bury you.”
“Thomas said he had Owen?” Robert asked Elaine.
Owen understood.
Thomas told Robert that his son had died after the warehouse collapse. He told Elaine both her sons had rejected her and would be harmed if she escaped.
Different lies kept each parent obedient.
Robert revealed the warehouse’s central archive could be preserved only through a three-part authorization.
Elaine’s trust design.
Robert’s evidence encryption.
Adrian’s ownership signature.
Thomas had the certificate, but without Adrian’s voluntary biometric approval, the transfer could not complete.
“He can fabricate it,” Adrian said.
“Not if you revoke capacity restrictions first,” Robert replied.
The forged medical declaration said Adrian lacked financial capacity.
Thomas relied on it when creating guardianships, yet the trust required a competent owner’s signature.
The contradiction was deliberate.
If Adrian revoked the declaration publicly, the transfer required his full consent.
If Thomas kept him “incapable,” no signature could legally move the trust.
Adrian activated the warehouse broadcast system.
His face appeared across every monitor.
“My name is Adrian Cole. I revoke every guardianship, power of attorney, and capacity restriction executed without my informed consent.”
Owen and the federal investigator witnessed the statement.
Elaine uploaded the supporting medical evaluation.
Thomas’s transfer screen turned red.
OWNER CONSENT REQUIRED.
He slammed his hand against the console.
Evelyn Marr stepped away from him.
“You said the declaration guaranteed control.”
“It did until Elaine released the medical records.”
“You told me she was dead.”
Thomas looked at her with contempt.
“You were useful because you believed what I needed.”
The sentence broke Evelyn’s loyalty.
She opened the door holding Elaine’s confiscated phone and passed it through.
“I want protection.”
Elaine took it.
The phone contained a private contact list linking judges, doctors, lenders, security contractors, and family members to Grayson.
One contact surprised Owen.
Sheriff Owen Hale.
His official number.
Messages showed regular payments.
Owen stared at the screen.
“I never received those.”
Robert looked toward his son.
“I did.”
The account was created under Owen’s name while Robert remained alive.
Thomas used it to pay Robert for maintaining the archive, making it appear the sheriff benefited from the operation.
Owen’s career could collapse even if the payments were false.
Then Thomas activated the public address system.
“Deputies, your sheriff’s family built Unit Seven. Decide whether you still trust him.”
Upstairs, several officers hesitated.
Caleb used the distraction to drag Vince toward an emergency boat tunnel.
Vince shouted Adrian’s name.
Adrian saw the route on the security map.
The tunnel led beneath the river.
