Chapter 1

Husband Flees Dallas With His Mistress After Draining Their Fortune But Finds His Quiet Wife Waiting At The Airport With Frozen Accounts Divorce Papers And Federal Investigators Closing In.

Elena Mercer sat alone at the marble café table inside Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, one hand wrapped around a coffee cup, the other resting beside her black smartphone.

Her laptop was open.

A legal folder lay beneath her palm.

Beyond the terminal windows, an aircraft waited at the gate Adrian thought would carry him out of Texas before anyone noticed what he had done.

Then Adrian appeared.

Black travel jacket.

Dark trousers.

Sunglasses.

One hand on the handle of a black rolling suitcase.

The other arm around Vanessa Cole’s waist.

Vanessa wore a red dress, gold jewelry, and the confident smile of a woman who believed she had already won.

Elena lifted her eyes from her phone.

She did not stand.

She did not cry.

“Enjoy the airport, Adrian.”

Adrian stopped so suddenly Vanessa bumped his arm.

He removed his sunglasses.

Arrogance drained from his face, replaced by disbelief.

Vanessa’s smile faltered.

Adrian released her waist and strode toward Elena’s table.

“What did you do?”

Elena placed her coffee down slowly.

No trembling.

No panic.

Only control.

She closed the laptop with one decisive hand and rested her palm over the legal folder.

“I protected everything you tried to steal.”

Adrian’s eyes dropped to the folder.

Then past Elena.

A man in a dark suit was approaching with two uniformed airport security officers.

Vanessa rushed forward, clutching her phone.

“Adrian, our cards are frozen—and the gate won’t clear us.”

Adrian turned sharply toward her.

The investigator stopped several feet behind him.

“Mr. Mercer, step away from the departure gate.”

Elena lifted her coffee again.

Adrian stood trapped between the wife he underestimated and the escape he had already lost.
