Chapter 10

No paramedics entered before the scene ended.
No doctor examined Hannah on-screen.
No police questioned Patricia or Courtney.
No full extent of the abuse was revealed.
No hidden evidence inside the house was exposed.
The moment ended with Ethan Parker standing beside the bed, holding six-day-old Owen securely against his chest while his other hand held the phone that had brought help to the house.
Hannah sat against the white bedding, weak and tearful, bruises visible around her eye, wrists, and arms.
But something in her posture had changed.
She was still frightened.
Still exhausted.
Still injured.
But she was no longer alone with people who could control the story.
Patricia stood near the bedroom doorway, floral dress bright beneath the emergency lights, her cold confidence finally cracking.
Courtney remained in the adjoining living room, pale and silent, realizing Ethan no longer believed the version they had prepared.
The brown leather briefcase lay abandoned beside the bed where Ethan had dropped it the second he saw his wife.
The wicker bassinet waited nearby.
The house remained beautiful.
Upscale.
Quiet.
But the truth had entered it.
Hannah looked down at the marks on her wrists and whispered the sentence that turned her pain into evidence.
“Tell the doctor to photograph everything.”

Ethan looked at Patricia with controlled devastation.
And outside, the sirens reached the driveway.
