Chapter 17 - Ron moves into a hotel
Ron and Linda never spent one night in the cabin.
They drove home after the sheriff visit.
Then their townhouse sale closed two days later.
They had nowhere permanent to go.
Irony.
Linda moved temporarily with her sister.
Ron stayed in an extended-stay hotel because he was angry at everyone.
He blamed me first.
Then Derek.
Then Rachel.
Then the county.
Then “paperwork.”
Eventually his lawyer told him to stop talking publicly.
Good advice.
Ron had spent money expecting the cabin.
U-Haul.
Furniture storage.
Sale timing.
He claimed damages against Derek.
Father sued son.
Not immediately.
Later.
Linda filed separately in their marital proceedings? No. They did not divorce then, though they separated for several months.
Ron’s own exposure remained under review.
Did he knowingly use a forged deed?
Investigators could not prove he knew it was forged when he moved.
Did he know I had not consented?
His texts suggested suspicion.
One to Derek:
Tom is going to lose his mind when we show up.
Derek:
He’ll get over it. Papers are done.
Ron:
Once we’re in, possession is 9/10 lol.
Bad joke.
Not proof of felony forgery.
It did support my civil claim that he was not a purely innocent good-faith occupant.
He eventually cooperated.
