Chapter 21 - My lawsuit against Ron
I did not sue Ron for millions.
There was no basis.
I did seek recovery of:
Lock replacement.
Property inspection.
Certain cleanup and storage expenses caused by the attempted move.
A portion of attorney costs where recoverable under applicable claims or settlement.
Ron’s attorney disputed most.
We settled.
Ron paid $8,500.
More important:
Written acknowledgment that he had no ownership interest in the cabin.
No future claim based on Derek’s deed.
No right of occupancy.
He hated signing it.
I watched him.
We were in a mediator’s conference room.
Ron read the paragraph twice.
Then:
“This is insulting.”
I said:
“No. It is clear.”
He looked at me.
“You think I wanted your damn cabin?”
“Yes.”
He almost stood.
Mediator intervened.
Ron finally said:
“I wanted somewhere to live after we sold our place.”
“Then rent one.”
“You know what housing costs.”
“Yes.”
“You have a house sitting empty.”
There.
Still.
After everything.
I answered:
“Need is not title.”
