Chapter 16 - The pool becomes a rumor

Someone posted a photograph of the green pool online.
Probably a neighbor’s relative.
Caption:
Police pulling black bags from missing woman case.
Within hours:
Bodies.
Human remains.
Missing children.
Organ trafficking.
Everything except the truth.
Emily heard a classmate say:
“They found dead people in your pool.”
She came home shaking.
I was furious.
I wanted to post photographs of the actual evidence.
My attorney said:
“No.”
For once, I listened.
Laura and I issued one short statement through counsel:
No human remains were recovered from the pool. Please respect the privacy of the children involved.
Nothing else.
That rumor taught me something.
