Chapter 23 - My apology to Emily

I had one too.

Not because I rescued her incorrectly.

Because after the incident, I became overprotective.

I checked locks.

Tracked her phone obsessively once she got one.

Asked too many questions after visits.

“Who was there?”

“Did anyone yell?”

“Did you go outside?”

“Was Mom with you?”

Emily finally snapped:

“Dad, I am not evidence.”

Ten years old becoming eleven.

I stopped.

She was right.

I had turned vigilance into another kind of monitoring.

Different motive.

Still pressure.

I apologized.

“I keep trying to make sure nothing happens again.”

She said:

“It already happened.”

Hard sentence.

Then:

“You can’t keep checking yesterday.”

I wrote that down later.
