Chapter 10 - THE PORTAL MESSAGES
Someone had logged into my patient portal from our home computer four times during the final month.
I shared the laptop with Richard.
One message to Dr. Carlson’s office:
Melody wants minimal intervention and prefers to remain home in early labor. Please do not encourage admission unless medically necessary.
Signed:
Richard, spouse.
Not impersonating me.
At least his name.
The nurse replied:
Given twins and hypertension, Melody should call labor triage promptly with regular contractions or rupture of membranes.
Richard never showed me.
Another message:
Can a doula attend at home before hospital transfer?
Reply:
A support person may be with the patient at home, but this does not change the recommendation for timely hospital evaluation.
Again.
No confusion.
