Chapter 12 - LINDA PIERCE
Linda came voluntarily to police with a lawyer.
She was sixty.
Retired doula.
No current clinical license.
She insisted she never intended to “deliver” twins medically.
Barbara called her three weeks earlier asking:
“Would you sit with Melody so she doesn’t run to the hospital at the first contraction?”
Linda said she explained:
“I can provide comfort only. Twins need medical care.”
Barbara asked her to come anyway.
On the night labor started, Richard texted Linda at 3:12 a.m.:
Contractions 5 min. Mom says come now.
Linda replied:
Has Melody called L&D?
Richard:
Not yet. She gets panicky if doctors get involved too early.
Linda:
She needs to call now.
Richard:
Just come.
Linda got dressed.
Then called me.
My phone was on Do Not Disturb.
She left voicemail.
“Melody, this is Linda. Richard says you’re contracting. Please call your hospital before anything else.”
I heard it after surgery.
Linda had flaws.
She should have refused Barbara’s arrangement earlier.
But she was not arriving to secretly deliver twins.
