Chapter 15 - The medicine bag

Victor kicking my medicine bag away seemed cruel but minor compared with confinement.
It became medically significant.
I took blood-pressure medication twice daily.
Pain medication as needed.
A muscle relaxant only for severe spasm.
Missing one dose was unlikely to kill me.
Cold exposure plus stress plus missed medication increased risk.
The prosecution was careful.
No one argued:
Victor tried to kill his mother by kicking pills.
The relevant fact was deprivation.
He knew I needed medication.
Moved it beyond reach.
Then left.
Claire later said:
“I thought he put the bag near the door.”
No.
Photographs showed it under the dock.
Eli retrieved it only after police photographed location.
My insistence on pictures mattered.
Not because I was a genius.
Because Warren had spent decades in regulated medical distribution.
He taught me:
If something goes wrong, preserve before interpreting.

I had mocked him for photographing damaged shipments at family vacations.
Apparently habits transfer.
