Chapter 9 - The warehouse was not random

Hart Industrial Redevelopment owned the building through a subsidiary.

Victor oversaw it.

The property was scheduled for demolition in four months.

No regular staff.

No active security.

Few cameras.

No nearby tenants after 6:00 p.m.

Why take me there?

Victor said privacy.

Claire said they wanted “neutral ground.”

Neutral.

An abandoned warehouse.

Investigators found another detail.

A temporary wheelchair ramp had been placed at the side entrance that morning.

Victor ordered it.

That suggested planning.

Planning to bring me.

Not necessarily planning violence.

The folder contained:

Broad power of attorney.

Revocable trust amendment concerning my personally owned assets.

Authorization to communicate with Fairfield Fiduciary.

Consent for Victor to act as liaison regarding “family trust distributions.”

None alone transferred $100 million.

But together they would significantly increase his practical access to information and authority.

Rachel examined them.

“This looks like someone trying to get into the room before knowing what’s inside it.”

Exactly.

Victor did not know the trust value.

He knew Fairfield mattered.

He wanted access.

Why?

The checking-account transfer was only one piece.
