Chapter 25 - I changed the estate plan
Not out of revenge.
That sentence mattered.
I did change it.
The limited power of appointment gave me lawful choices within the trust.
I hired independent counsel.
Eli hired his own because I insisted.
Victor and Claire received notice of changes where required.
The new plan did not erase them.
Instead, it strengthened continuing trusts for all descendants.
No outright giant distributions.
Independent trustees.
Educational and health support.
Reasonable housing.
Business investments only after third-party underwriting.
No beneficiary could serve as sole trustee over another beneficiary.
Why?
Because I had learned what family hierarchy can do when money and care mix.
I also increased the charitable share modestly.
Medical-access programs.
Elder legal services.
Disability housing.
Claire accused me, through counsel, of punishing her.
Maybe part of me wanted to.
That was why I used independent advice.
The final changes were defensible even if all three children had been saints.
That was my test.
