Chapter 1

My Daughter in Law Kicked a Helpless Old Woman Down Her Frozen Steps—Then I Removed My Disguise and Evicted Her From My Mansion.
Victoria Alder kicked the crutch away before the old woman finished asking for help.
The wooden crutch spun across the icy marble steps and struck the black iron door with a sharp crack.
Margaret Alder fell to one knee, dirty charcoal coat dragging through the snow, gray wig tangled across her face, fake leg brace twisted beneath the ragged hem of her clothes.
Above her, Victoria stood in an ivory coat with a fur collar, diamond necklace shining in the warm mansion light.
“Get off my porch before you infect my dogs!”
Inside the doorway, two golden retrievers barked once.
Daniel Alder stood behind his wife in a navy suit, face pale, body frozen.
For one second, Margaret looked at her son.
He did not help her.
He looked away.
“Victoria… call security.”
Victoria smiled.
Margaret breathed slowly, one gloved hand against the frozen stone.
Then the pain in her face disappeared.
Something colder replaced it.
She rose without the crutch.
The limp vanished.
The fake weakness vanished.
She stood straight beneath the falling snow.
“People remember how you treat them when you think they have nothing.”
Victoria’s smile died.
Margaret removed the gray wig and stained scarf.
Elegant silver hair appeared beneath.
Pearl earrings caught the light.
A tailored black winter coat showed beneath the disguise.
The golden retrievers stopped barking.
Daniel stepped down one stair, horror spreading across his face.
“Mom?”
The security director approached from the driveway with a black portfolio.
Margaret removed a thick sealed envelope from inside her coat and held it toward Victoria.
“You have thirty days to leave my house.”
Victoria stared from Margaret to the mansion.
