“Hawthorne still has people inside this hospital.”
Marcus placed her under guarded questioning.
Olivia said Rebecca Lane was her mother.
Rebecca delivered the triplets and recognized immediately that Mercer planned to separate them.
She could not save all three.
Carolyn had authority over Subject C and claimed she would hide the child outside the project.
Rebecca agreed because Sarah was supposed to remain with Natalie and Emily required immediate immune treatment.
The compromise became permanent.
Carolyn raised Claire under surveillance until Graham ordered new experiments.
Rebecca helped stage the boating death and escaped with the girl.
They changed her name to Lily Grant and presented her as Olivia’s younger sister.
“Where is she now?” James asked.
Olivia looked toward the hallway cameras.
“Not here.”
“Where?”
“I need protection for my mother first.”
Marcus arranged federal custody.
Olivia revealed Lily was living inside a remote coastal community in Maine under another identity. Rebecca had trained her never to speak to strangers, never to enter hospitals, and never to remove the white sunflower bracelet.
Three weeks earlier, Carolyn located them.
She claimed Natalie was close to exposing the truth and asked Lily to send Sarah instructions.
The white petal inside the pajamas had been delivered through Elise.
Different women inside the conspiracy had begun cooperating without trusting one another.
Carolyn.
Rebecca.
Elise.
Natalie.
Each knew a different piece.
None shared everything.
Their secrecy protected the project as effectively as it resisted it.
Olivia said Lily wanted to meet her sisters.

The three living biometric profiles together would unlock the complete research record and automatically transmit commercial data to every investor.
The girls were keys even when no procedure occurred.

Marcus ordered all systems disconnected.

The hospital tablet had authenticated Sarah.
The train terminal authenticated Emily.
The white sunflower petal contained Lily’s encrypted identifier.
When evidence technicians scanned it, the third profile entered the network.
The archive recognized all three.
A countdown began inside Carter Industrial servers.
Twenty-four hours until automatic distribution.
James stared at Olivia.
“You knew scanning it would do that?”
“No.”
“Rebecca did?”
“I don’t know.”
“Carolyn?”
Olivia looked away.
Possibly.
Carolyn may have engineered the entire sequence:
Sarah found injured.
Hospital documentation initiated.
Kitchen footage revealed.
Triplets reunited through evidence.
Archive activated.
She had called James, protected Sarah, and directed police toward every clue.
Perhaps the assault created the opportunity she had waited for.
That did not mean she caused it.
But she understood how to use it.
Marcus traced the archive’s automatic release protocol.
To stop it, all three girls had to provide live consent at the original Carter Industrial laboratory.
The system was deliberately designed so children would need to appear together.
James refused.
“They are not walking into another lab.”
“If the archive releases,” Marcus said, “their genetic data and medical histories go to dozens of private companies.”
“Then shut the servers down physically.”
“They’re distributed.”
Lily’s live confirmation was still required to complete or cancel the process.
Olivia called Rebecca.
No answer.
The Maine safe house was empty.
Food remained warm.
A window stood open.
No signs of struggle.
On the wall, Lily had drawn three girls standing beneath a hospital sign.
One held a tablet.
Another held a yellow hair clip.
The third held a white flower.
Beneath it:
WE HAVE TO CHOOSE TOGETHER.
Lily may have left voluntarily.
A traffic camera captured a girl entering Carolyn’s car near the coast.
Carolyn was driving.
They headed south.
Toward Virginia.
Lily was coming to the hospital.
Sarah and Emily sat together for the first time while adults argued nearby.
Sarah whispered something.
Emily nodded.
James approached.
“What are you planning?”
Sarah looked at him.
“You said no one gets to use our bodies without asking.”
“Yes.”
“So they have to ask us.”
“You don’t have to fix this.”
Emily answered.
“We don’t. But we should know what happens if we say no.”
The children were thinking more clearly than the adults who had built the forced choice.
Natalie asked Olivia whether the archive could be copied into a protected court system without releasing commercial data.
Olivia did not know.
Chris suggested separating identity evidence from research data.
Mercer, under guard, claimed he could do it.
No one trusted him.
He said Lily designed part of the solution.
At age seven, she discovered weaknesses in the authentication code and sent anonymous patches through Rebecca.
The control subject had become the only person who understood the system better than its creators.
Carolyn’s car reached the hospital parking garage at 11:42 p.m.
Security teams surrounded it.
The driver’s door opened.
Carolyn stepped out with both hands visible.
The rear door opened.
A girl wearing a white coat and sunflower bracelet emerged.
She looked exactly like Sarah and Emily.
But Lily was not alone.
Rebecca Lane stepped out behind her carrying a sealed medical case.
Inside was a fourth infant bracelet.
Red.
Marcus stared.
“How many children were born that night?”
Rebecca looked toward Natalie.
“Three daughters.”
“Then whose bracelet is that?”
Rebecca’s expression became grave.
“The boy who was delivered in the next operating room.”
James felt cold.
“What does he have to do with my family?”
Rebecca held up the case.
