Chapter 9 - Paris

Denise and Lauren made it to Paris.

People later asked why authorities did not arrest them at Newark.

Because real investigations are not television.

At the diner:

Coffee assault.

Taken Social Security card.

Possible financial exploitation.

Disputed account use.

No arrest warrant yet.

I did not claim they had kidnapped me.

They had driven me willingly to the diner.

Leaving me without transportation was cruel.

Not automatically kidnapping.

The coffee incident had witnesses and cameras.

Police took a report.

Lauren’s possession of my card was documented after I explained I had not consented.

Investigators needed interviews.

Records.

Intent.

They were allowed to board their flight.

Martin canceled Denise’s household expense card before takeoff.

That card was mine.

Not her personal cards.

Lauren’s access to my account was revoked.

Their own money remained theirs.

They did not land destitute at Charles de Gaulle.

They were both financially comfortable.

That mattered.

They had not abused me because they were starving.

Denise earned high six figures during good real-estate years.

Lauren had savings, a wealthy ex-husband settlement, and consulting income.

Paris remained affordable.

The trip had been booked for eight months.

I later learned one hotel deposit had originally been placed on my expense card.

Denise reimbursed it after Martin disputed the charge.

Whether it had been intentional?

She said the wrong saved card was selected.

Possible.

I stopped turning every ugly transaction into a conspiracy.

Their cruelty did not need fictional additions.

They went to Paris.

Posted photographs.

Champagne.

Balcony.

Opera.

At the same time, Martin drove me to urgent care after the diner.

Maya returned to work.

And the financial doors quietly closed behind my daughters.
