Chapter 13 - The money nobody expected
Morwenna’s motive was not money.
Mostly.
But money appeared in a subtler way.
For years, Caroline paid Morwenna for extra childcare during her parenting time?
No.
I paid Morwenna nothing.
She refused.
“I’m her grandmother.”
Then during discovery, bank records showed Caroline had transferred Morwenna:
$600.
$850.
$1,200.
Across three months.
I saw the numbers and immediately thought:
Paid for videos.
Wrong.
Mostly.
The payments were for travel.
Morwenna had agreed to accompany Odelia on flights to North Carolina if relocation were approved.
Caroline had prepaid deposits for tickets and a child-friendly travel service.
One transfer, however, was different.
$350 with memo:
consultation.
Caroline explained:
Morwenna had paid Evelyn Price’s parenting-consultant invoice because Caroline’s card had been compromised. Caroline reimbursed her.
No bribery.
No payment per video.
I was almost disappointed.
Anger wants clean corruption.
Reality provided emotional alliance instead.
Morwenna had not been bought.
She volunteered.
