Chapter 17 - Ben moves out
I returned home with Ellie after eleven days at Robert’s.
Ben did not.
He rented a furnished apartment.
His choice after I said:
“I can’t work on this marriage while sharing a bedroom.”
He cried.
So did I.
No police escort.
No suitcase thrown outside.
A marriage can separate quietly even after a violent family event.
We established a temporary parenting schedule.
Ben had substantial time with Ellie.
No evidence he had physically harmed her.
No evidence he wanted Linda to harm her.
But the safety plan prohibited Linda contact while the investigation and court orders remained.
Ben followed it.
Once, Linda appeared at his apartment unannounced during his parenting time.
He did not let her in.
He called me immediately.
That mattered.
Old Ben might have thought:
Five minutes won’t hurt.
New Ben said:
“Mom, you have to leave.”
She cried in the hallway.
He still did not open the door.
