Chapter 17 - Daniel’s boundary
Veronica completed anger-management classes.
No probation violations.
Then requested to meet Nora.
Daniel wanted to say yes.
I did not.
Our disagreement was real.
“She slapped me while I was pregnant.”
“I know.”
“She tried to grab my phone.”
“I know.”
“She’s facing felony charges.”
“I know.”
“Then why?”
“Because I think a supervised visit can happen without giving her control.”
I stared.
Months earlier Daniel would have argued:
She’s my mother.
Now:
Structure.
Specific.
I asked:
“What would it look like?”
Neutral family counselor’s office.
Thirty minutes.
Daniel present.
I do not attend.
No holding Nora unless I approve? That could be too controlling. But infant safety, father can decide during his care. Still both parents. We agree she may hold seated.
No discussing case.
No gifts over $100.
No name commentary.
No photos posted.
If she violates, visit ends.
I reluctantly agreed.
Why?
Because Nora was Daniel’s child too.
And Veronica had never harmed Nora.
Then visit.
Daniel told me afterward only what mattered.
Veronica cried.
Held Nora.
Said:
“Hi, Nora.”
No Vivian.
No argument.
She brought:
A $28 stuffed rabbit.
Not trust.
Not education money.
At the end she asked:
“Can I see her again?”
Daniel said:
“We’ll decide.”
Not:
Yes, Mom.
He came home.
I asked:
“How do you feel?”
“Tired.”
Good answer.
Then Veronica texted him later:
Thank you.
No manipulation.
May you like
One good visit did not erase anything.
But it counted as one good visit.
