Chapter 13 - Sarah becomes the villain

My older sister Sarah was forty.
She lived twelve minutes away.
Derek blamed her for our separation.
Why?
Because Sarah was the first person who said:
“Turning off your electricity until you come out of a room is not normal.”
I had laughed when she said it.
Derek heard about that conversation later.
From me.
He called Sarah:
“A divorce hobbyist.”
She had never been divorced.
Did not matter.
After the basement, Sarah offered us her house.
I stayed there with Lily and Noah.
Derek’s lawyer argued Sarah was coaching me.
Then he subpoenaed messages.
Some were bad.
Sarah:
Do not let him manipulate the kids into thinking he’s a victim.
Me:
I won’t.
Sarah:
Tell Lily the truth.
Me:
Age appropriate.
No coaching of facts.
But enough emotional hostility to require care.
My attorney told Sarah:
“Stop giving legal advice.”
Sarah said:
“I’m not.”
“You are giving something shaped like it.”
May you like
She stopped.
Mostly.
