Chapter 16 - Noah remembers almost nothing

Noah was three.

He did not become an important witness.

Good.

He remembered:

Dark.

Lily crying.

Police flashlight.

Mommy gone.

That was enough.

When adults asked too many questions, he said:

“Basement monster.”

There was no basement monster.

We stopped asking.

His therapist told us:

“At three, safety matters more than narrative accuracy.”

That changed how I parented after the incident.

I wanted to know what every expression meant.

Did he fear Derek?

Did he remember the banging?

Was he traumatized?
