Chapter 10

No entire inheritance was revealed inside the funeral chapel.

No every crime was exposed.

No final consequence unfolded beneath the crystal chandeliers.

The scene ended with Claire Vale standing beside her father’s polished coffin, one hand resting lightly on the dark wood, tears still bright in her eyes but her posture steady.

Nathan Cole held the sealed page in front of the room.

The legal documents remained partly concealed against his black suit.

Vanessa stood frozen beside the ornate chair, her earlier outrage replaced by fear she could no longer disguise.

Grant Mercer stared at her with suspicion replacing loyalty.

Evelyn Vale stood silent, one hand at her pearls, terrified of what Henry Vale had corrected before death took him.

The executives behind Vanessa waited without breathing.

The chapel smelled of white flowers, polished wood, and old money finally losing control of the room.

Claire had entered as the disgraced daughter.

Uninvited.

Unwanted.

Expected to mourn from the shadows.

Then Nathan called her forward.

Her father had corrected the lie.

The page explaining who framed her was about to be read.

And Vanessa, who had spent years living safely inside Claire’s ruin, could not answer one simple question.

“Vanessa… what is he talking about?”

Nathan drew breath.

Claire lifted her chin.

The truth was not fully revealed yet.

But the silence that protected the lie had already broken.
