He had reviewed every message with Walter, Lydia, Margaret, and Brittany? No Brittany in this story. Keep names. Every invitation, business introduction, and seating arrangement that brought them together.
Margaret’s foundation sent Ethan to the charity event.
Lydia placed Claire on the emergency staff rotation.
Walter selected the venue.
Yet Ethan left his assigned table before meeting her because a catering assistant dropped boiling coffee. Claire was the person who helped.
Their first conversation happened inside a service hallway outside the planned cameras.

He gave Claire the wedding ring.

He stared at it.
“I signed a photography release that morning.”
The release had been converted into a proxy-marriage document.

Claire was legally listed as Noah’s wife in a private jurisdiction controlled by Margaret.

Ethan looked at Noah.

“We challenge it together.”
Ethan nodded.
