Chapter 9 - The Surgeon’s ConfessionDr. Helena Voss surrendered through an attorney.

She agreed to speak after prosecutors offered protection, not immunity.
The interview occurred inside a federal medical office.
Victoria, Claire, Ethan, Anna, and Mara watched from behind secure glass.
Voss appeared older than at the wedding but carried the same precise posture.
“I created the star marks,” she said.
“Why?” Mara asked.
“At first, identification.”
The hospital foundation feared an infant kidnapping after threats against several wealthy families. Voss used a five-point surgical closure on Amelia’s cardiac incision.
Edmund ordered a matching procedure on Anna.
The second child did not require it medically.
Voss complied.
“You cut a symbol into a healthy baby,” Claire said through the speaker.
Voss looked toward the glass.
“Yes.”
“Do not call that protection.”
“I won’t.”
The surgeon admitted Project Starling created a third category after the first year.
Mirror Child.
A genetically related child raised inside the system to challenge or replace the primary heir if both heir and shield became uncontrollable.
Victoria went pale.
“Whose child?”
Voss hesitated.
“Yours.”
The delivery record had been altered.
Victoria gave birth to twins.
Amelia required emergency surgery.
The second girl was healthy.
Edmund told the medical team the second infant had died before delivery. Victoria was unconscious and never saw her.
Voss moved the baby into Project Starling.
Elena Vale called her Rose.
Margaret later renamed her Lydia.
Claire stopped breathing.
Lydia Stone was her twin sister.
The wedding planner who weakened the sleeve and arranged the altar had known.
“Why reveal Claire?” Mara asked.
“Lydia believed public recognition would destroy Walter’s trusteeship and force Margaret into the open.”
“Did Margaret know?”
“Margaret trained her.”
“Then why rebel?”
Voss looked toward Victoria.
“Children raised as instruments eventually decide which hand they want to become.”
Lydia wanted Project Starling, not merely freedom.
As the hidden twin, she held a competing claim to the Ashford trust. The original birth times determined priority.
Claire was born four minutes earlier.
Lydia believed the time had been falsified.
The wedding was designed to expose Claire publicly, discredit Victoria through her attack, and freeze the trust while Lydia challenged the birth order.
Claire felt violated by a sister she had never met.
Lydia had used her humiliation as a legal trigger.
Voss admitted she attended the wedding because Lydia asked her to verify the scar.
When Victoria tore the sleeve, the ultraviolet lighting scanned Claire’s implant.
“Implant?” Claire asked.
A microscopic identification capsule remained beneath the scar.
It connected to the Starling registry.
The scan activated Claire’s dormant heir profile.
Lydia’s plan had already worked.
Claire’s existence entered the trust system before the DNA result.
Voss warned someone might try to remove the capsule.
Without it, Claire’s legal identity could be challenged.
“Can it be taken safely?” Claire asked.
“Yes, under controlled surgery.”
“Who has access to the scan?”
“Margaret. Lydia. Eleanor Price.”
The family attorney remained missing.
Mara asked about Edmund Vale.
Voss had signed his false death certificate. He survived for six years afterward, managing Starling from a private medical residence.
He died later from natural causes.
Margaret inherited command.
“Is Margaret alive?” Victoria asked.
Voss looked directly toward her.
“Yes.”
The word broke something in Victoria’s face.
Her mother watched her grieve Amelia, adopt Ethan, bury Charles, and become increasingly cruel toward Claire without once revealing the truth.
“Where is she?”
“I don’t know. Lydia does.”
Before the interview ended, Voss gave Mara a sealed surgical log.
It listed three star-marked children.
Amelia.
Anna.
Rose.
A fourth entry appeared beneath them.
Secondary Primary—Sample Collected. No transfer recorded.
The date was seven years ago.
The sample belonged to Claire.
Project Starling had collected reproductive material from her during an appendectomy at eighteen.

Someone had prepared another generation of heirs without her consent.
👉 Dr. Voss confirmed Lydia was Claire’s hidden twin and warned that Project Starling had already taken Claire’s genetic material to create a future child.
