Family records said Charlotte died from pneumonia at age three.

“You keep calling absence safety.”
Margaret lowered her eyes.
The distinction finally reached her too late.
Charlotte’s file contained a current biometric ping.
The first bracelet had activated during Claire’s wedding.
Someone wearing it stood inside the chapel among the guests.
Security footage identified an elderly woman seated in the final pew.
She watched Victoria tear the sleeve.
She watched Margaret’s descendants collide.
Then she left before Walter.
The woman registered under the name Charlotte Reed.
Noah Reed’s legal mother.
Noah believed his mother died ten years earlier.

If Charlotte raised Noah, then the backup Bridge was not random. Margaret’s first daughter placed her own son near Claire.
Noah stared at the photograph.
“My mother knew.”
He remembered her insisting he attend the same school as Claire and later work in event photography.
Charlotte shaped his path.

Noah met her first.
“You let me bury you.”
“I needed Margaret to stop watching.”
“You made me watch Claire.”
“To protect her.”
“You also made me part of the Bridge program.”
“I thought proximity gave you the chance to choose differently.”
Noah looked toward Claire.
“I should have known what I was choosing.”
Charlotte agreed.
The first Starling child possessed a master archive Edmund believed destroyed.

But releasing it would expose children and adults who had no idea their identities were altered.
Charlotte proposed destroying it.

Margaret did not create Sophie and Lucy alone.
Charlotte authorized the embryos.
She believed children biologically connecting Claire, Ethan, and the Reed line would prevent Margaret from choosing one family over another.
Noah stood.
“You used my brother’s genetics and Claire’s body records to manufacture peace.”
“I tried to end rivalry.”
“You created children inside it.”
Charlotte closed her eyes.
The first victim had become another architect.
Before authorities could secure the master archive, the lighthouse generator failed.
Emergency lights activated.
The safe stood open.
The drive was gone.
