Chapter 13 - The babies’ last appointment

Five days before the twins died, I took them to their pediatrician.

Dr. Nina Walsh.

Both were gaining weight.

Owen still had reflux.

Miles had mild congestion.

No serious concerns.

I told Dr. Walsh:

“They sleep longer when my mother-in-law handles night feeds.”

I said it as gratitude.

Dr. Walsh asked:

“How much longer?”

“Sometimes four hours.”

She said:

“That can happen as they grow, but at seven weeks, especially with late-preterm babies, keep following feeding guidance.”

I nodded.

I never mentioned medicine.

I did not know.

That appointment later mattered because it documented the boys were not critically ill before death.

No hidden terminal disease.

No infection identified that independently explained both deaths.

They were vulnerable because they were tiny.

Not dying already.
