Chapter 15 - The funeral assault case

The church assault became almost secondary after the toxicology results.
It was still a case.
Video showed Evelyn slapping me.
Grabbing my hair.
Forcing me toward the coffin.
Witnesses heard:
“Shut up or you’ll end up in there.”
Her lawyer argued the statement was an angry expression during an emotionally catastrophic funeral, not a literal death threat.
Probably true.
Prosecutors charged the physical conduct appropriately.
No attempted murder at the coffin.
No fantasy charges.
My own grab at Evelyn’s headscarf after Lucy’s disclosure was visible too.
I was not charged.
Officers and prosecutors considered context, sequence, and the fact that I was stopped before causing injury.
Evelyn’s attorney still used it to argue mutual escalation.
I disliked that phrase.
It was not entirely invented.
Two things can be true:
She assaulted me first.
I then tried to get at her after my daughter made an explosive accusation.

That did not make the original assault mutual.
It made the later chaos complicated.
