Chapter 16 - Daniel loses the right to simplify himself
Daniel’s defense in family court was:
“I did not know Mom continued.”
True as far as evidence showed.
Then:
“I told her to stop.”
Also true.
Then:
“I never believed she would hurt them.”
Likely true.
But family court asked a different question.
When your four-year-old daughter described “snow milk,” did you investigate?
No.
When your mother admitted giving something to one infant without permission, did you tell your wife?
No.
Did you remove your mother from caregiving?
No.
Did you inform the pediatrician?
No.
Did you continue leaving infants in her care?
Yes.
Daniel had not administered the medication.
No evidence showed he knew she planned to do it again.
That mattered criminally.
It did not erase parental failure.
Lucy initially remained with me under temporary orders.
Daniel received structured contact.
Supervised at first because the entire family system was unstable and because he had grabbed me and told me to leave during the funeral assault instead of protecting me.
The court did not call him a murderer.
