part 6

PART 6
Richard was taken to the hospital that evening.
Vivian objected.
No one listened.
That was new for her.
The ambulance crew wheeled him out through the grand front doors while Isabella walked beside him.
Reporters had already gathered at the gate.
Not because Isabella called them.
Because Grace Monroe’s financial freeze had hit three Hartwell accounts, and money always screamed louder than victims.
Vivian stayed in the foyer with officers.
Marcus sat on the stairs, sweating through his dark blue suit.
Detective Hale asked for the medication schedule.
Vivian said the nurse handled it.
There was no nurse.
She said Richard preferred privacy.
The staff said Vivian dismissed anyone who questioned her.
She said Isabella was greedy.
Detective Hale played the footage of Richard crawling again.
Vivian stopped speaking.
At the hospital, doctors found dehydration, malnutrition, untreated inflammation, and medication mismanagement.
Richard was not free of memory problems.
But he was not the helpless man Vivian claimed.
He knew his daughter.
He knew his house.
He knew when medication had been withheld.
He knew fear.
The doctor asked him who should make medical decisions now.
Richard looked at Isabella.
“My daughter.”
Isabella cried then.
Not in the hallway.
Not in front of cameras.
In the restroom with one hand over her mouth so her father would not hear.
Six years of being called ungrateful, unstable, and absent broke out of her all at once.
Then she washed her face.
Straightened her beige coat.
And returned to work.
By midnight, the court suspended Vivian’s medical authority.
By morning, Marcus’s business access was frozen.
By noon, the mansion was sealed for evidence preservation.
Vivian called Isabella from an unknown number.
Isabella answered only because Detective Hale was recording.
Vivian’s voice was poison.
“You think one sick old man will save you?”
Isabella looked through the hospital glass at Richard sleeping.
“No.”
“He saved himself by staying alive.”
Vivian hissed.
“You should have stayed gone.”
Isabella’s voice was calm.
“That was your last mistake.”
May you like
“You believed I left empty-handed.”
