PART 7
The financial audit exposed the house before the family secrets did.
Grace Monroe found the shell companies first.
Marble consulting.
Interior restoration.
Private wellness services.
Three fake vendors.
All created by Marcus.
All paid from Richard’s accounts.
Vivian approved the transfers under medical authority.
Marcus signed as operations advisor.
The money flowed into investment properties, luxury cars, jewelry, and a beach house under Vivian’s maiden name.
Richard’s care budget had been cut at the same time.
His nurse dismissed.
His physical therapy canceled.
His medication switched to cheaper generics without proper review.
Isabella read the report in the hospital waiting room.
Page after page.
Theft written in polite financial language.
Her father had been crawling on marble while they bought ocean views.
Detective Hale sat beside her.
“You okay?”
“No.”
“Good answer.”
Isabella almost smiled.
Then Grace called.
“We found something else.”
“What?”
“Your mother’s trust.”
Isabella sat up straighter.
The trust her mother Caroline created before death was supposed to protect the mansion and family assets from exactly this kind of manipulation.
Vivian and Marcus had been trying to dissolve it.
They filed papers claiming Isabella was unreachable and Richard was incompetent.
They planned to transfer the mansion into a new holding company controlled by Marcus.
The filing date was the next morning.
If Isabella had arrived one day later, the process would have started.
Isabella looked toward Richard’s hospital room.
Her father was awake now, staring out the window.
“He knew,” she whispered.
Detective Hale turned.
“What?”
“He called me.”
“When?”
“Three nights ago.”
“It was only breathing.”
“I thought it was a mistake.”
She opened her phone and found the voicemail.
At first, only static.
Then Richard’s faint voice.
“Isa…”
A pause.
“Come home.”
Another pause.
“Before she takes it.”
Isabella’s hand shook.
Detective Hale took the phone gently.
“This matters.”
Richard had not been fully silenced.
Not completely.
Some part of him had fought through fear, drugs, and locked doors to call his daughter home.
Isabella stepped into his room and played the voicemail.
Richard listened, tears filling his eyes.
“I didn’t know if it sent.”
“It did,” Isabella said.
May you like
“And I came.”
