Chapter 15 - THE SCHOOL FILEThe school created another problem.
Its database still listed Linda as:
Alternate custodial guardian
from my accident.
I had updated annual paperwork twice.
But the emergency-contact database and custodial module were separate.
One changed.
One didn’t.
Linda had used the stale status to pick Evan up for the pulmonology appointment.
The secretary saw:
custodial guardian.
No concern.
Was that Linda’s fault?
Partly.
Was it the school’s fault?
Partly.
Was it proof of a conspiracy?
No.
The district reviewed procedures afterward.
They found something else.
In September, Linda had signed an asthma form:
Parent/Guardian Signature: Linda Marshall
The school nurse assumed she was authorized.
Why sign it?
Linda later said:
“The form was going to expire.”
She could have called me.
She didn’t.
Again, convenience followed the same direction:
May you like
Keep authority.
Avoid me.
