“He burned his wife’s arm for ruining dinner… then the hidden camera sent everything to the police.”
Dominic Hale was still shouting when the police entered the living room.
“She’s lying!”
“I didn’t touch her!”
Two officers held him by both arms as he twisted against them in his black shirt, face red, eyes wild, still trying to control the room even after the room had stopped obeying him.
Across from him, his wife, Elena, stood barefoot near the white sofa with her cream cardigan slipping from one shoulder.
Her long brown hair was messy.
Her face was wet with tears.
Her left arm trembled as she pulled the fabric back.
The burn mark ran across her skin in an angry red line.
The smell of wine, smoke, and ruined dinner still hung in the wealthy living room.
A bottle sat open on the side table.
Two glasses remained untouched.
On the sofa, Dominic’s father, Arthur Hale, stared at the floor in a pale blue shirt, looking like a man who had heard too much and done nothing for too long.
Dominic’s mother, Victoria, stood in a pink blouse with a wine glass still in her hand.
She looked shocked.
Not at Elena’s injury.
At the police.
Elena lifted her shaking arm and pointed toward the kitchen island.
Her voice came out broken but clear.
“The camera saw everything.”
Dominic stopped struggling for half a second.
Victoria turned sharply.
“What camera?”
A detective stepped in from the kitchen holding a tablet with the footage blurred on the screen.
His expression was cold.
Victoria rushed forward.
“This is a private family matter!”
The detective looked at her.
Then at Dominic.
“Not anymore.”
Dominic’s face changed.
The rage was still there, but fear had entered beneath it.
The officer behind him pulled his arms back.
“Dominic Hale, you’re under arrest.”
Elena did not move.
She could barely breathe.
For years, Dominic’s family had called his cruelty stress.
A temper.
Misunderstanding.
A private matter.
Tonight, the hidden camera had sent the truth outside the walls before anyone in the Hale family could bury it.
And for the first time, Elena watched Dominic lose the one thing he had always used against her.
