Chapter 11 - MIRIAM’S PRICEOfficer Ortiz ordered Miriam to drop the syringe.

Miriam tightened her grip around Julie.
“It isn’t poison.”
“No one believes that anymore,” Julie said.
The nurse’s face crumpled.
She released her and placed the syringe on the floor.
It contained a tracking implant, not a sedative.
Miriam had intended to insert it beneath Julie’s skin before the police transported her.
“Why?” Sophia asked.
“Because Rebecca will take her.”
Julie stepped away.
“You raised me.”
“I hid you.”
“You lied to me every day.”
“Yes.”
Miriam admitted Rebecca paid her to remove both babies from the hospital. The young nurse believed Robert planned to place them inside separate institutions until the inheritance became useful.
Rebecca’s plan was to move the children to Canada.
Celeste disrupted it.
She took one infant and demanded control over the other.
Claire regained consciousness and ordered Miriam to help Celeste escape.
Miriam followed three conflicting instructions in less than an hour.
Rebecca’s.
Celeste’s.
Claire’s.
Then Robert arrived.
“I chose the person who could keep one child alive immediately,” Miriam said.
“You chose Robert,” Sophia replied.
“Yes.”
Miriam gave him one baby.
She kept the other hidden.
Months later, she learned Celeste had recovered both children and was living in Santa Barbara. Robert raided the house, separated them, and threatened Miriam into silence.
Rebecca disappeared after trying to retrieve Julie.
Miriam believed she died.
Until six months earlier.
Rebecca contacted her and ordered her to place Julie inside the mansion.
“She wanted the sisters reunited before the twenty-fifth birthday.”
“She used me,” Julie said.
“We all did.”
Miriam’s bluntness silenced the room.
Robert had planned to transfer Sophia.
Rebecca wanted Julie close enough to claim the trust.
Celeste wanted the girls to expose Robert.
Claire wanted both daughters to recognize her.
Miriam wanted forgiveness without surrendering control.
No one had asked Sophia or Julie what they wanted.
Julie looked at Sophia.
“I don’t want the trust.”
“I don’t know whether I do.”
“That is the first honest choice either of us has had.”
Police confiscated the tracking implant.
Its transmitter was already active.
Rebecca knew exactly where they were.
Ortiz ordered the mansion evacuated.
Before anyone moved, the front security doors locked.
Steel shutters descended over the first-floor windows.
Robert stared toward the ceiling.
“That isn’t my system.”
Rebecca’s voice returned through the speakers.
“The trust biometric ceremony begins at dawn. One daughter must be presented.”
Sophia looked at the clock.
4:46 a.m.
The Ashford attorneys would arrive at six.
If no verified heiress appeared, control transferred permanently to Robert’s corporate foundation under an emergency clause.
Rebecca intended to force the family to identify one girl before then.
“She wants the money,” Robert said.
Rebecca answered him through the speaker.
“I want the trust destroyed.”
“Then why present anyone?”
“Because only the lawful heiress can dissolve it.”
The original maternity evidence remained incomplete.
Rebecca claimed she possessed the final placental samples, but refused to release them until Claire publicly admitted her role in the abduction.
Claire stepped toward the chapel camera.
“I signed the transfer.”
“That is not the entire confession.”
Claire went pale.
Rebecca continued:
“Tell your daughters why Thomas’s plane crashed.”
Sophia stared.
Claire’s husband had died two months before the births.
Robert had always described it as an accident.
Claire looked toward the antique pistol.
“Thomas discovered the embryos had been switched.”
Julie’s voice dropped.
“What did you do?”
Claire closed her eyes.
May you like
“I told Rebecca to stop him from reaching Robert.”
👉 The kidnapping began after Claire ordered her hidden sister to intercept the man who could identify both children.
