Chapter 14 - THE WOMAN AT THE FRONT DOORPolice opened the entrance only after scanning the woman for weapons.

She identified herself as Evelyn Hart.

Twenty-four years old.

Raised in Oregon.

Her adoptive parents told her that her biological mother died during childbirth and her twin did not survive.

Three weeks earlier, a yellow note arrived in the mail.

Your sister lives in Beverly Hills. Come before her twenty-fifth birthday.

The note carried Rebecca’s handwriting.

Evelyn entered the chapel and looked at Sophia.

Neither woman moved toward the other.

The resemblance was undeniable, but resemblance had become dangerous evidence inside that family.

A rapid DNA comparison confirmed they were full biological sisters.

Margaret Vale had delivered twin girls at 2:17 a.m.

Celeste removed both from the medical residence.

One became Sophia.

The other was sent through a private adoption under Rebecca’s supervision.

Robert claimed he never knew Evelyn survived.

Rebecca admitted she did.

“Why separate them?” Sophia asked.

“To keep Robert from controlling both.”

“You controlled her instead.”

“I watched from a distance.”

Evelyn held up the old case ledger.

“You paid my adoptive father every year.”

Rebecca did not deny it.

Evelyn’s upbringing had been loving, but it was built around a false death and secret payments. She had received freedom only because Rebecca believed distance made her strategically safe.

Sophia had received wealth and confinement.

Both lives were designed by strangers.

The case ledger contained the original birth identities for every infant involved that night.

Margaret’s twins: Sophia and Evelyn.

Claire’s daughter: Isabella.

Celeste’s carried embryo: Juliet.

Julie stared at the name.

“Juliet.”

Miriam had shortened it to Julie while hiding her.

That meant Julie was the child Celeste carried.

The remaining missing infant—Isabella—was Claire’s daughter and the lawful heiress.

Claire looked shattered.

“My daughter is still missing.”

Julie’s face tightened.

“You called me your daughter all night.”

“I believed—”

“You believed the answer that gave you comfort.”

Claire lowered her head.

“Yes.”

Julie remained biologically connected to Claire because she came from Claire’s embryo, but Celeste had carried and delivered her.

The family could argue forever over which woman deserved the title mother.

Julie refused to let biology erase the years Miriam raised her or excuse the years Miriam deceived her.

“Where is Isabella?” Sophia asked.

Evelyn opened the final page.

The infant had been transferred to a protected family under the name Iris Reed.

No current address appeared.

Rebecca claimed the file had been altered by someone else.

Robert looked at the initials beside the transfer.

C.A.

Claire Ashford.

Claire stepped backward.

“I did not sign that.”

The signature matched her known handwriting.

The antique pistol contained a hidden microfilm strip showing Claire inside the hospital service corridor after the official time she was sedated.

She held one infant.

Miriam followed behind her.

Claire watched the footage in horror.

“I don’t remember this.”

Miriam did.

Claire had awakened before dawn and demanded that Isabella be moved separately from Celeste’s child. She feared Celeste would use both girls to control the trust.

Miriam followed her to a waiting car.

A woman drove them away.

“Who?” Ortiz asked.

Miriam looked toward Claire.

“Rebecca.”

Claire had helped move her own daughter a second time.

She later accepted medication that erased parts of the night.

Whether she consented to the memory treatment remained unclear.

Rebecca’s voice entered through the chapel speaker.

“Claire asked me to make sure Robert never found Isabella.”

Claire looked toward the camera.

“Where is she?”

Rebecca answered:

“Inside this mansion.”

Everyone froze.

The hidden corridors connected to more than bedrooms and the chapel.

They connected to a sealed apartment beneath the staircase.

Police found a door concealed behind the library shelves.

A woman’s voice came from the other side.

“She is lying.”

May you like

It sounded exactly like Claire.

👉 The lawful heiress had allegedly lived beneath Robert’s house while every adult searched, argued, and profited above her.
