Chapter 13 - SOPHIA’S THIRD RECORDRobert asked for legal counsel.

Sophia laughed.
“You touched my scar every week for years. You don’t get to hide behind counsel now.”
Officer Ortiz warned him that silence remained his right.
Sophia did not need a confession to understand that he had always known more.
Rebecca displayed the third birth record.
A woman named Margaret Vale delivered a daughter at 2:17 a.m. inside the Ashford medical residence.
Margaret was Robert’s younger sister.
She died hours later from an untreated hemorrhage.
The infant disappeared from the residence.
Robert found her months afterward inside Celeste’s Santa Barbara house.
“You’re my uncle,” Sophia said.
Robert’s face revealed the truth.
Biologically, Sophia was a Vale.
Not an Ashford.
Celeste had taken Robert’s infant niece and placed her among the two Ashford children, creating three possible identities around only two publicly known babies.
“Why?” Julie asked.
Celeste answered from Hawthorne.
“Because Robert would sacrifice every Ashford child to protect the trust, but he would hesitate with his sister’s daughter.”
Robert looked toward the screen.
“You stole Margaret’s baby while she was dying.”
“I took her because your family refused to call an ambulance until the private physician arrived.”
Robert’s father feared scandal. Margaret had given birth outside marriage to a man connected to the Ashford estate.
The delay killed her.
Celeste arrived before official records were completed and took the infant.
She marked Sophia with a crescent scar, gave her a copied locket, and placed her beside the other girls.
Robert later believed Sophia was Claire’s daughter because Celeste told him so.
When he discovered the truth years later, he kept it hidden.
“If I’m not the heiress, why did you plan to present me?” Sophia asked.
“Because the trust’s biometric file was built around your records.”
Robert had altered the original heir profile after recovering Sophia. He used her scar, photographs, and medical history to create a substitute Isabella Ashford.
For twenty-four years, the legal trust recognized Sophia even though she carried no Ashford inheritance.
The real heiress could appear and still fail authentication.
“You made me a human password,” Sophia said.
“Yes.”
The answer came softly.
Robert claimed he intended to transfer the assets to Sophia at twenty-five, then dissolve the arrangement.
The transfer papers beside her bed disproved him.
He intended to declare her incompetent and continue controlling everything.
Julie looked toward Claire.
“Then who am I?”
The maternity log and original locket suggested Julie was one of the two Ashford infants.
The remaining girl had vanished after the Santa Barbara separation.
Claire believed Julie was hers.
Celeste claimed Julie was the embryo she carried.
Rebecca refused to identify her before the final tests.
“You all keep withholding the answer because it gives you power,” Julie said.
She took the original locket from her neck and placed it on the chapel floor.
“I am not opening your trust.”
Rebecca’s calm vanished.
“You must.”
“No.”
“If no heiress appears, Robert’s foundation takes permanent control.”
“Then federal investigators freeze it.”
“The board will move the assets first.”
Sophia stepped beside Julie.
“Then release every record.”
Rebecca stared.
“That will expose private patients, fertility clients, and children placed under sealed protection.”
Another false choice.
Protect innocent identities and preserve the criminals.
Expose the crimes and harm the people hidden inside them.
Sophia looked at Officer Ortiz.
“Can the data be separated?”
“With time.”
“How much?”
“Days.”
They had less than an hour.
Then the nurse’s old case file began vibrating.
A black smartphone had been sewn into its spine.
The screen displayed a live feed from the mansion’s front entrance.
A young woman stood outside holding the missing original case ledger.
She looked like Sophia.
Same eyes.
Same mouth.
Same crescent scar.
Robert whispered:
“Margaret’s first daughter.”
Sophia turned toward him.
“You said she had one baby.”
Robert shook his head.
May you like
“She had twins.”
👉 Sophia had a biological sister, and someone had kept that woman hidden while Sophia was used as the Ashford substitute.
