Chapter 13 - Rachel comes home

Rachel did not return to our house.

She went directly from her mother’s home to an attorney’s office.

Then to a hotel.

She requested clothing through counsel.

I boxed it.

No screaming driveway confrontation.

No broken wine glasses.

No cinematic divorce scene.

The first time I saw her again was at a temporary family-court hearing.

She looked smaller.

Not physically.

Emotionally.

She asked through her lawyer for supervised therapeutic contact with Emily.

My lawyer objected to immediate contact.

The judge ordered no direct contact pending further child-safety evaluation, while leaving open future therapeutic communication.

Rachel was not Emily’s biological mother.

She had not adopted her.

That simplified some legal authority.

It did not simplify the fact that Rachel had been in Emily’s life for four years.

Emily had once called her “Rach.”

May you like

Sometimes “Mom Rachel.”

Love does not disappear on the date someone becomes unsafe.
