Chapter 10

No death was shown inside the private crematorium chapel.
No flames touched the coffin.
No childbirth occurred.
No final medical outcome was revealed.
No arrest, courtroom proceeding, or complete family conspiracy was exposed.
The scene ended with Clara Mercer being carefully moved from the open mahogany coffin toward a medical stretcher, her white lace maternity dress still covering the smallest visible signs of life.
One paramedic monitored her breathing.
The other prepared her for urgent transport.
Daniel stood beside them in his black funeral suit, devastated but no longer uncertain.
His grief had transformed into protection.
Helena remained near the front pew, pearls trembling against her throat, face drained of every practiced expression.
Marcus stood several feet away, blocked from the stretcher, rage and fear fighting across his face.
Dr. Crane hovered near the aisle, unable to disappear.
The female relative in the black wrap dress watched in genuine shock, one hand still pressed to her throat.
The attendants stayed by the emergency stop, shaken by the cremation they had nearly completed.
Daniel looked once at the empty coffin.
Then at Clara.
Then at the family who had wanted the lid closed.
“Nobody touches her except the medical team.”
Helena’s eyes moved to the stopped cremation doors.
And she finally understood.
The fire would not erase Clara.
May you like
Not today.
Not while Daniel had seen her move.
