“If Walter hears this, tell him the threat is now the room. Gregory may be dangerous outside. Helena is dangerous here. Eleanor’s bloodline is not a reason to keep Lucas watched. Give him the records when he is old enough. Let him decide whether Vale means anything.”
Daniel developed a severe infection after an untreated construction injury reopened.
A nurse requested hospital transfer.
Helena refused because public admission would reveal his identity.
Walter received an urgent message and approved transfer fourteen hours later.

“You knew?” Lucas asked during their next meeting.

“And did nothing.”
“I moved you and Eliza farther away.”
“You let me bury him as an accident.”
“I believed the truth would lead Gregory to you.”
“Gregory found me through Rachel anyway.”
“Yes.”
“Why keep the recordings?”
Walter looked toward the floor.
“Because one day I intended to confess.”
“You built a test instead.”
“Yes.”
Daniel’s death became a separate criminal and civil investigation.
Helena faced charges for unlawful confinement and reckless homicide.
Walter faced conspiracy and obstruction review.
Eleanor’s decisions were examined.
Eliza’s ignorance was tested against the letters she had received.
Lucas requested his father’s death certificate be corrected.
The new record stated that Daniel Mercer died from complications of an untreated infection during an unlawful identity-protection confinement.
It did not call him only a construction worker.
It did not call him a Vale custodian.
He was identified as Lucas’s legal and biological father.
The audio diary remained sealed except for portions Lucas chose to use in court.
He kept one private copy of the tomato sentence.
The original charter moved into divided court custody.
No family member held it.

A handwritten amendment appeared beneath Walter’s signature:
If Daniel refuses the succession role, Lucas may be conditioned through attachment to the Langley granddaughter.
