Chapter 6 - Rachel’s Missing SummerRachel remembered the summer she turned seventeen as fragments.

A boarding school in Maine.

A white room.

Pamela crying beside a window.

Gregory telling her she had embarrassed the family.

Then waking in September with a scar behind her ear and no desire to ask questions.

Her parents called it treatment for anxiety.

The Hawthorne file described something else.

Rachel had discovered Gregory transferring money from Walter’s company into shell accounts. She threatened to tell her grandfather.

Gregory and Pamela sent her to Hawthorne Rest.

The treatment notes described “family loyalty resistance,” “inheritance fixation,” and “recurrent distrust of paternal authority.”

Rachel looked at her parents.

“You had them erase me.”

Pamela stepped toward her.

“You were sick.”

“I found your accounts.”

“You were destroying yourself.”

“You let them put something in my head.”

Gregory snapped, “That file could be fabricated.”

Walter turned the screen toward him.

The consent form carried Gregory’s fingerprint and Pamela’s signature.

Rachel backed away from both parents.

Lucas watched conflicting truths collide inside her.

She had betrayed him.

She had helped confine Walter.

She had also been conditioned by the same system now moving against them.

Victimhood did not erase responsibility.

Responsibility did not erase victimhood.

Evelyn requested a medical scan of the scar.

Nathan used a portable detector.

A small metallic device sat beneath the skin.

Not a tracker alone.

It stored identification and treatment-access data.

Rachel touched the scar in horror.

“Remove it.”

“Not here,” Nathan said. “We need imaging and evidence preservation.”

The device transmitted every few minutes.

Hawthorne knew where she was.

Walter asked why Rachel joined Derek.

She looked toward the driveway where he disappeared.

“Derek told me he found evidence that Lucas married me for the trust.”

Lucas stared.

“I didn’t know the trust existed.”

“I know that now.”

Derek showed her fabricated messages between Lucas and Evelyn discussing the Vale inheritance before the wedding. He claimed Walter planned to discard Rachel once Lucas’s identity became public.

Gregory reinforced the story.

Pamela told Rachel her only protection was controlling the trust before Lucas did.

The affair began as an alliance.

Then became real.

“How long?” Lucas asked.

“Eight months.”

The answer still hurt.

Rachel did not ask forgiveness.

Walter opened another video.

Derek met Claire? No—an unknown Hawthorne administrator inside a parking garage. She handed him the forged messages and instructed him to keep Rachel emotionally unstable.

Derek had not discovered the conspiracy.

He worked for it.

The administrator’s face remained hidden, but her voice was clear.

“Once Rachel delivers Walter and Lucas, restore her maintenance schedule.”

Rachel whispered, “Maintenance?”

Her file prescribed yearly memory reinforcement.

The family’s annual “wellness retreats” were Hawthorne appointments.

Pamela sat down.

She had accompanied Rachel each time.

“You knew?” Rachel asked.

Pamela cried.

“I thought it prevented the episodes.”

“What episodes?”

“You remembering.”

That was the closest Pamela came to admitting the truth.

Walter’s hidden phone received a message from an unknown number.

A live image showed Derek inside the black van beside the silver suitcase.

Behind him sat another restrained passenger.

Attorney Evelyn Shaw.

Everyone looked toward the foyer.

The woman standing there with them appeared identical.

Same face.

Same clothes.

Same voice.

Lucas moved away from her.

The woman smiled faintly.

Then the hidden phone played a message from the real Evelyn.

“Walter, the person inside your house is not your attorney.”

May you like

The imitation Evelyn reached into her coat.

👉 Rachel discovered years of memory manipulation, but the live transmission revealed that Walter’s trusted attorney had been replaced by an identical impostor.
