Victoria’s criminal hearing began while Nolan remained missing.
The prosecution presented the chandelier footage first.
The rich sitting room appeared on the courtroom monitor.
Victoria in scarlet.
Lily beneath the red curtains.
Broken glass.
Punishment schedules.
Nolan’s instructions.
The recordings removed every polished explanation.
Victoria’s attorney argued that she had acted under Nolan’s pressure.
The prosecutor asked whether Nolan forced her to remove Lily’s shoes.
“No.”
“Did he force you to make her stand?”
“No.”
“Did he force you to photograph bruises?”
Victoria lowered her head.
“No.”
“Did he force you to tell an injured child she was ungrateful?”
Silence.
Richard testified about the night he returned.
He did not describe himself as Lily’s rescuer.
He described what he had failed to notice.
The changed behavior.
The hidden cameras.
The documents he signed without reading.
The way Victoria answered for Lily.
The way he accepted convenience as proof of safety.
Victoria stared at him.
“You loved me.”
Richard looked directly at her.
“I trusted the person you pretended to be.”
“I kept your life together.”
“You kept my daughter afraid.”
“She hated me before I touched her.”
“She missed her mother.”
“I was supposed to live beneath a dead woman forever?”
The courtroom fell silent.
Victoria’s resentment had always been directed at Amelia.
Lily carried Amelia’s face, inheritance, and memory.
Victoria could not control the dead woman.
So she punished the child who represented her.
Clara testified next.
She described Victoria entering the mansion under another name before Amelia’s death. She described the staged theft and Nolan’s threats.
Dr. West presented the medical evidence.
Grace explained the trust motive.
Detective Laura authenticated Snowy’s recordings and the chandelier archive.
Victoria’s confidence collapsed completely when the prosecution played her own words:
She was going to own everything while I remained temporary.
The judge denied every request for release and ordered the case to trial on the most serious charges.
Victoria faced decades in prison if convicted.
Her assets were frozen.
Her foundation position ended.
The mansion staff members she had dismissed began providing statements.
Several admitted they saw Lily standing beneath the chandelier and believed Victoria’s claim that the punishment came from a therapist.
No therapist had approved it.
The household had participated through silence.
Richard invited them to speak without threatening their jobs.
Most chose to cooperate.
Some resigned out of shame.
Lily left the hospital two days later.
She did not return to the mansion.
Richard rented a smaller house near a park. The rooms had wide windows, simple furniture, and no chandeliers.
Lily chose yellow curtains.
Clara accepted a temporary caregiving role under independent supervision. She never entered Lily’s room without knocking.
Dr. West arranged physical therapy and trauma counseling.
Lily could stand for nearly one minute without pain.
The first time she crossed the living room alone, Richard did not cheer loudly.
He knew praise could feel like another demand.
He smiled and asked:
“How did that feel?”
“Like my legs belong to me.”
They sold the scarlet gown Victoria wore during the abuse and donated the proceeds to a child-protection charity.
The red curtains were removed from the mansion and sealed as evidence.
The chandelier remained lowered until the trial.
Whitmore Biotech appointed Grace as interim independent trustee.
Lily’s shares were protected.
Yet the missing ledger pages allowed Nolan’s attorneys to submit a remote challenge claiming Amelia’s final vote had never been completed.
The court rejected immediate transfer of voting authority until the originals were found.
Nolan could still delay Lily’s future.
Then an anonymous package arrived at the rental house.
Inside was the missing silver collar tag.
No ledger pages.
A message had been engraved onto the back:
Victoria was the punishment. Nolan was the theft. Ask what Richard’s board wanted.
Richard stared at the words.
His own company board had benefited whenever Whitmore shares remained controlled by Nolan rather than Lily.
The message could be another attempt to create distrust.
