Chapter 6 - THE EMERGENCY HOLDING COMPANY

The holding company was called Red Vale Management.

It had been created six months earlier by Nolan’s law firm.

Its stated purpose was to protect Whitmore Biotech shares during a beneficiary’s medical crisis.

The beneficiary crisis had not yet existed when Nolan created it.

He had been waiting for one.

Grace filed an immediate injunction.

The court froze the transferred shares before Red Vale could vote or sell them, but Nolan challenged the order.

He claimed Lily’s hospitalization confirmed a long pattern of instability and physical collapse.

“She collapsed because she was abused,” Grace told the judge.

Nolan’s attorneys submitted Victoria’s reports.

They described Lily as violent, self-injuring, and resistant to medical care.

Richard submitted hospital photographs and the punishment schedules.

The judge ordered an independent evaluation and prohibited Red Vale from exercising control until the facts were reviewed.

Nolan appeared confident after the hearing.

“Richard, grief has made you impulsive.”

“You forged my signature.”

“I relied on delegated authority.”

“You added pages to documents.”

“That accusation requires proof.”

Richard stepped closer.

“Nolan, Amelia warned me about you.”

For the first time, Nolan’s expression changed.

“What recording did you find?”

Richard said nothing.

Nolan had confirmed Amelia made more than one.

At the hospital, Lily began physical therapy.

She could stand for only a few seconds before pain forced her back onto the bed.

Richard remained close but did not lift her until she asked.

Victoria had turned standing into punishment.

He would not turn help into control.

“Daddy?”

“Yes?”

“Is she coming back?”

“No.”

“Nolan said grown-ups with papers can make anything true.”

Richard looked toward the hospital window.

“He was wrong.”

“Was he?”

The question hurt because Lily had already seen how often papers defeated truth.

Richard answered carefully.

“Papers can confuse people. Evidence can correct them. And I will not stop until everyone sees what happened.”

Lily touched the white teddy bear.

“Snowy had more evidence.”

“Where?”

“I don’t know. Victoria moved him when I found Mommy’s letter.”

“What letter?”

Lily explained that she saw Victoria cut open the curtain seam weeks earlier. After Victoria left, Lily searched the same place and found a note from Amelia.

It said:

The bear remembers what the room forgets.

Lily hid the note inside Snowy.

Victoria discovered her reading it.

That was when the punishments became worse.

Richard searched every trash record, storage room, and charity donation receipt connected to the mansion.

Victoria had not thrown Snowy away.

A house inventory showed she sent a box of children’s belongings to Redwood House, the private treatment center named in the emergency petition.

Grace obtained a warrant.

Redwood House staff denied receiving any teddy bear.

Their storage log showed one sealed box from the Hawthorne mansion.

Nolan personally collected it the next morning.

Security footage captured him carrying it into his car.

The box had not been seen since.

Detective Laura searched Nolan’s office under the forgery investigation.

She found no bear.

But his computer contained photographs of Snowy from multiple angles.

One image showed the bear’s zipper open.

Inside was a tiny camera.

Amelia had installed it years earlier to record Lily’s bedtime moments.

The device automatically uploaded clips whenever it connected to the mansion network.

Nolan had possession of the camera.

He may also have copied its recordings.

Laura traced the old upload address.

The cloud account still existed.

It required a recovery phrase.

Richard asked Lily whether Amelia used a special bedtime phrase.

Lily whispered:

“Red curtains close. Snowy keeps watch.”

Richard entered the words.

The account opened.

Hundreds of short clips appeared.

The newest had been uploaded only nine hours earlier.

Someone had turned Snowy’s camera on inside an unfamiliar office.

Nolan stood in front of it.

Behind him, Victoria appeared on a video call from custody.

👉 Snowy’s camera was still active, and its latest recording showed Nolan secretly communicating with Victoria after her arrest.
