Chapter 10 - MY ANGRY MESSAGEI made my own mistake the evening after we came home.

I had been advised not to contact Patricia.

I did anyway.

Not a call.

A text.

I was sitting beside Lily’s bassinet at 2:14 a.m., watching her chest rise.

I wrote:

If Lily has permanent damage because of you, I will make sure you lose every person in this family.

Then:

You will never touch my child again.

The second sentence was a boundary.

The first was a threat born from rage.

Patricia’s attorney used it later.

Emily wanted to destroy Patricia.

Emily had family hostility.

Emily was framing an accident as intentional violence.

My lawyer, Nicole Harper, asked:

“Why did you send this?”

“Because I meant it.”

“Do you still?”

I thought.

“No.”

“Then say that.”

“I still want accountability.”

“Different thing.”

I hated how often adulthood required me to separate emotions that felt identical.

Accountability.

Revenge.

Safety.

Punishment.

Distance.

May you like

Destruction.

If I could not distinguish them, someone else would do it for me.
