Chapter 12 - MICHAEL ROWAN Michael gave police his own statement.
He did not see me pushed.
That mattered.
He was around a bend.
He heard a scream.
Then saw the cruiser accelerating away.
Approximately two minutes later, he saw me.
When he reached me, I immediately said:
“They pushed me.”
Then:
“My daughter.”
He wrote those words down later because Detective Benton asked him to recall them exactly.
The prosecution would eventually call that an excited utterance made while I was still cold, coughing, and disoriented.
The defense called it a mistaken interpretation from an elderly woman in shock.
Michael did not argue.
