Chapter 12 - The wedding planner’s schedule
The wedding planner, Hannah Lowe, called me after cancellations.
“Adrian, there’s something I think you need.”
“What?”
“I’m uncomfortable being in the middle.”
“Then don’t.”
“No. You should see this.”
She forwarded a schedule Vanessa had sent three weeks before Lily’s birthday.
Title:
POST-WEDDING FAMILY TRANSITION
Not legal.
Not official.
Wedding logistics.
Still revealing.
Week one:
Honeymoon.
Lily with Maria, then Adrian’s parents.
Week two after return:
No bedroom interruptions except emergency.
Three adults-only dinners.
Lily begins “independence routine.”
Week three:
One overnight with Maria.
Week four:
One weekend away.
Then:
Goal by fall: Adrian and Vanessa maintain two weekends per month primarily as a couple, with Lily rotating Maria/grandparents/friends where appropriate.
I stared.
No child needs two weekends away from a parent every month so adults can prove they are married.
Maybe some families choose arrangements like that.
We had not.
Then another line:
Remove Natalie photo from main living room before wedding guests arrive. Move to Lily’s room.
I had never agreed.
Another:
No Lily at sweetheart table after first course.
Another:
Talk to Adrian about changing emergency-contact order so Vanessa appears before Maria.
That request itself was reasonable after marriage.
But:
Talk to Adrian.
Not done.
The document was not evidence Vanessa intended kidnapping or legal usurpation.
It was evidence she had created an entire post-wedding family structure privately.
Why?
Hannah told me:
“She said you two were still negotiating details.”
“We weren’t.”
“I suspected.”
“Why?”
“Because anytime I copied you, Vanessa called afterward and asked me not to overwhelm you.”
There.
The same mechanism.
Avoid the conversation.
