Chapter 20 - Lily and cake

For two months, Lily would not let anyone put frosting near her face.
Reasonable.
At a classmate’s birthday, another child made a joking motion with a cupcake.
Lily flinched.
The child stopped immediately.
“Sorry.”
Lily nodded.
No crisis.
Dr. Hart said:
“Do not turn cake into danger training.”
So I did not.
We baked at home.
Lily controlled frosting.
She smeared some on my nose once.
Then froze.
I smiled.
“Your joke?”
She nodded.
I wiped it.
“Then okay.”
“Can I do more?”
“No.”
Boundary.
She laughed.
At seven, she requested a chocolate birthday cake with no flowers.
“Why no roses?”
“Vanessa cake had roses.”
Fair.
At eight:
Strawberry.
At nine:
White roses again.
Her choice.
