Chapter 24 - THE SLAP CASE
Daniel faced a misdemeanor domestic-assault charge.
Security footage was clear.
He did not deny the slap.
His attorney argued lack of prior history.
No serious injury.
Emotional provocation.
He entered a negotiated plea.
Probation.
Intervention program.
No-contact terms except through divorce counsel.
No prison.
Some relatives complained that was too harsh.
Others too light.
I stopped collecting opinions.
At sentencing Daniel said:
“I was angry and humiliated, and I hit my wife. Nothing she said made that acceptable.”
I believed he meant it.

That did not restore marriage.
Accountability and reconciliation are separate systems.
