Chapter 25 - MARGARET ASKS TO SEE LILY
Two years after the party, Margaret petitioned for therapeutic contact.
Lily was nine.
Old enough to have an opinion.
She said:
“No.”
The evaluator asked:
“Never?”
Lily shrugged.
“Not now.”
Court respected that.
Six months later, Margaret sent a letter through approved channels.
No excuses.
At least mostly.
I was wrong to call you what I called you.
I was wrong to put a chain around you.
You did not cause what happened between adults.
Lily read it.
Then asked:
“Do I have to answer?”
“No.”
She put it in a drawer.
Three months later she wrote:
I don’t forgive you yet. Stop asking Dad when I will.
